Kaki Bola Dua II, PJ

My fiancé is an ardent fan when it comes to fish head noodles. And he claims, all the best fish head noodles in town actually originated from Cheras. His hometown is, as you guessed it...Cheras. And he defensively pro claim the fish head noodles champion and originator as belonging to Cheras. There are many well-known fish head noodles stores in Cheras. I challenged him to that thought, and that started our quest to taste all the famous fish head noodles available in town (Cheras, KL and PJ included). I will dedicate a category to list down all the fish head noodles which i have tried and tested.

For the first fish head noodles stop, we headed over to Kaki Bola Dua II in PJ (Taman Paramount) This is actually a branch of the famous Kaki Bola X.O Fish head noodles in Taman Segar, Cheras. I for one, have not tasted the fish head noodles from the Cheras branch, so I would not compare it with the original.
As we stepped into the restaurant, we were greeted by Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and a few superstars footballers from the Manchester United football team. Well, at least they greets us from the wall. With the idol pin-ups adorning the wall, it looks like a place a football fan would hang out. Other than the obvious name of the shop of course.
There were a few tables filled with families, twenty-somethings males and your regular 'knows-good-food uncles'. It was lunch time on a typical Sunday afternoon and the crowd was slowly building up.

We ordered a fish paste soup, a fresh fish head noodles and a fresh fish fillet noodles.

The fish paste soup was garnished with spring onions to lessen the fishy smell. Potato leaves vegetables were also added along with seaweed slices. The fish paste was chewy and generous in size. The soup tasted lightly salted, not too much flavouring added to conceal the taste of the fish.

The fresh fish head was soft and succulent. There were heaps of tomato, parsley and spring onions. However, the taste of  X.O (which is the specialty here) was quite faint and there was only a hint of sourness from the tomato. Not much taste of milk as well.

The fish head fillet was big and the serving was quite generous. It tasted fresh and texture was soft. One thing good about Kaki Bola is that they provide the option of thick bee hoon noodles while most of the others only serve regular thin bee hoon noodles. The taste is the same as the fresh fish head noodles. The taste is quite light, which is not exactly a delight to fish head noodles fans.
Overall, i would rate this a 3 out of 5 for taste.
