Susan's Bistro

I came across this cosy little Italian Cafe last Saturday while searching for a new place to dine. It has been recommended by other fellow bloggers in the blog sphere so i decided to give it a try. I take a fancy on Italian cuisine and thought it would make a good first entry in my attempt to write about food, something i have not done before in the past.

This place is called Susan's Bistro. It is located at Bandar Mahkota Cheras, a new township in Cheras which is fast booming with cafes, your regular 'tai chau', restaurants and mamak outlets.

This is the interior deco of the cafe. Simple, cozy and a tad touch of Italian style. Nothing too showy.

The cafe was already half-packed by 6.30 pm on a Saturday night. A good sign that business is steady, an even better sign that the food might be good. We were greeted by a waitress wearing a long black apron who took our orders shortly. We ordered a seafood soup, smoked salmon pasta, Cajun chicken pizza and Tiramisu infused with coffee liquor to end the dinner extravagantly.

First came the seafood soup (RM 8.00). The seafood serving was generous. It consist of mussel, squid and shrimp and comes in a tomato based soup. The taste had a rather watery consistency, which lack in taste.

Next on the list was the Smoked Salmon Pasta in creamy sauce which was between RM15-18.

The Smoked Salmon Pasta came with black caviar which was nicely garnished on top. The taste is pretty decent. Creamy sauce mixed with the aroma of smoked salmon and salty caviar. A nice combination.

The pizza came pipping hot right after the pasta. It was a Cajun Chicken pizza with BBQ sauce.

The pizza came in two sizes: Regular and Large. The regular is good enough to feed 2 to 3 person. The crust is medium, not really the super thin kind of crust other eateries are serving. But it is good enough to satisfy your pizza cravings. The taste is fair, with generous filings of chicken. I ordered the regular size.

Lastly, I ordered the Tiramisu with coffee liquor.

The Tiramisu has a coffee liquor aroma, but it was faintly there. The texture was soft and creamy. Not one of the best in town though. For tiramisu lovers, order the ordinary tiramisu as it cost cheaper and does not differ much from the coffee liquor version.

Overall, I would give this cafe a 3 out of 5 ratings.

The food has a pretty decent taste and it is really value for money. For the price you pay, it is definitely a steal. The bill came up to around RM 60, which I think it's quite affordable for a 4-course Italian meal for 2. Worth a re-visit with a menu filled with Italian and Western dishes, without a hefty price tag.
